Mayor of Busytown
Business strengths: Do you feel like you’re juggling all of your tasks while wearing several different hats every day? Parent, teacher, business owner, and all the to-dos–it’s tiring! Despite the serious constraints on your busy schedule, you care about your business. You power through many tiring days and often choose work when others might choose rest. Because of this, you frequently question your sanity, but you feel good knowing you’ve made a dent in your business to-dos. You don’t give up and have proven your toughness in the hardest, busiest seasons of your life. You look forward to a day where you have room to breathe, but in the meantime, you are one tough breed of business owner.
Area to improve: Because you have so little time, it’s important to make sure you’re using it wisely. Make sure you are spending time on things that matter and will move the needle of your business. Small, less impactful tasks can wait–the back burner exists for a reason.
What to watch out for: Don’t fall into the trap of being busy all the time; instead, focus on being productive. Even if it’s a small step, being productive means you’ve actually accomplished something; whereas your busy days often end in you wondering how you even spent your time. In addition, be very careful about playing the comparison game. It’s very easy to feel down and discouraged when you can’t find the time you need to spend on your business, and it does not help to compare your journey with someone whose days look much different than yours.
What will help: Having a flexible system of working that you can adjust to your busy schedule is key. You need a tangible to-do plan so you what needs to be done, when, and how–you don’t have time to waste figuring out where to start every day!
